Almost going solo

I can't believe it but apparently I'm almost ready to fly solo. I'm a little uncomfortable in certain maneuvers, namely normal approaches but I guess I can do it well enough to be reasonably safe if not exactly pretty.

I'm going to have one more dual flight to an uncontrolled airport and fly some patterns, then one more flight with a second instructor for a 2nd opinion on my abilities. Then it's on to supervised solos in the pattern with the instructor on the ground. Then I start doing cross country solo trips less than 25 naut miles. Whew.

Crazy.

We'll see how it goes.

    whoa mark.....solo....crazy indeed
i'm sure you will do better than you expect :)

i had a lesson with elvis on thursday! we flew from long beach airport, out to the water, up the coast and over the city, downtown los angeles then back.

it was the first time i was in a r22, man what a trip! my 2nd hour, elvis's 1400 hour
    haha

it had been about a year and a half since my first flight, so i was super nervous & excited......last time i only took one control at a time, this time i was taking all of them for short times

elvis is an excellent instructor and pilot

by the time we got to downtown, after i snapped some photos, i flew us home! elvis sat back and just coached me

Sweet. That is a great feeling, realizing "hey, I did that". Right on, Elvis.

I haven't been in an R22 yet but after my ppl and during my instrument or commercial I will take the robbinson safety course. The r22 has a bit faster cruising speed and some other nice things on it. Maybe I can get Elvis to give me some introductions to the robby soon.

How was the landing? That's the area where I've had a hard time getting the feel for where the controls need to be. It's pretty much all feel in that maneuver. You want your airspeed high enough but not too high, your descent rate steady and fast too but not too fast, but not too slow either -- don't want to get into a settling with power which is a bad thing.

Anyway, next training for me is tomorrow and I will be doing an airport to airport without any assistance. Hopefully. :) Then I need to fly with another instructor, Christine, a rare girl instructor, to give me the green light for solo. My school also has an internal test for pre-solo students but it's not an FAA requirement.
