these southern california fires are bringing the best pilots from the nation.....

the display of organization and skill is astonishing

i spoke with one of the pilots today on AM radio, just happened to tune in during an interview

asked him to describe some of the dangers they face......besides the heavy air traffic, he said it's like going to war....he was up there wed/thurs and the winds comming off the fire were about 90 knotts

that's just crazy

i also learned that most of the fire pilots start out as firemen who have done extensive ground work, and are extensively trained specific to fire fighting and search & rescue

the los angeles county crew have no less than 10 years of fire piloting experience from working fires in other states

without them, the everything would be a hell of a lot worse

what a job.
