Started flying fixed wings last year; working towards mycommercial, but I truely want to fly helicopters in the islands. The only thing stopping me is time and money. Hopefully by end of next year that will be reality or close to it. If any of you all have advise I am open to it.

Re: Helicopter Pilot Wanna Be
Thu, May 26, 2005 - 3:55 PMShort of joining the military, the cheapest places I have found for helicopter training are East Carolina Helicopters in Washington, NC (near Kitty Hawk). They teach in Brantley B2B's for $160/hr dual and $130/hr solo.
The other deal I found was a company on the Chesapeake Bay in MD. What they will do is when you get your commercial ticket, you can fly their helicopters for $100/hr (Robinson R22) taking photos of peoples boats and homes. -

Mon, June 20, 2005 - 1:07 PMThose rates are incredibly low for heli training, but it would be very hard to move to East Carolina for me, unfortunately.
Hopefully, if all goes well, I start training in late july but out here in California, prices are different. I'll need to be a fast learner.

Fri, June 24, 2005 - 10:35 AMthanks for the info, i'm not that far from carolina, and would gladly fly a plane down to kitty hawk, to become a rotor head, still working on fixed wing private, but has always been a dream to fly a helicopter
